The Symphony of the Lakes, a part time professional orchestra located in Warsaw, Indiana, is pleased to announce that we will be hosting our 5th Annual Young Artist Competition. Our organization recognizes that the northern Indiana community is blessed with so many wonderful young musicians that we want to offer the students the opportunity to compete for scholarships and other various awards. Following the success of last year’s addition of adding the junior division (grades 5 through 8), we will be making it a part of the competition once again.
The competition will be Saturday, March 16, 2019 at the Warsaw Performing Arts Center at Warsaw Community High School. Students will compete in a Senior division (Grades 9 – 12) and a Junior Division (Grades 5 – 8). Students who play Woodwinds, Brass, Percussion, Piano, and Strings (including harp and acoustic guitar) are eligible to participate. Students must meet eligibility requirements to participate.
In order to participate, students must be residents in one of the following counties: Adams, Allen, DeKalb, Elkhart, Fulton, Huntington, Kosciusko, LaGrange, Marshall, Miami, Noble, St. Joseph, Steuben, Wabash, Wells, or Whitley. Entrants must also participate in musical activities in school OR have a private instructor who lives or works in the counties listed. Other rules for the competition can be found in the rest of the information and application that is included with this letter. Feel free to copy the letter and application as many times as needed for your students. The application can be found at the bottom of this page.
It is our hope that you will help us reach out to private teachers of your school students and help us spread the word. We certainly don’t want to exclude anyone from participation if they have the desire to do so. We look forward to more opportunities for you and your students in the future.
The Symphony of the Lakes’ mission is to engage the Northern Indiana community and enrich its quality of life through live musical performances and education opportunities. Giving students an opportunity like this will hopefully allow your young and gifted students the chance to shine in a way they perhaps haven’t had the opportunity to do so.
The application deadline is Friday, February 1, 2019. If you have any further questions, please email them to firstname.lastname@example.org.
